Meet The Team
The aim of this website is to drive awareness to the existence of and history of the University City Searchlight. Our hope is that we will educate the community of this amazing piece of history that is very unique and something that deserves to be maintained and operated for decades to come.
There is a long storied history of the light and its "rediscoveries" that you can read more about here.
Imagine the Loop Ice Festival ending the evening with the University City Searchlight shining down Delmar and lighting up the night. Imagine the pride University City residents would have driving home one evening and seeing the spotlight lighting up the sky guiding them home similar to how E.G. Lewis drew potential subscribers and Tent City lodgers to University City in 1904.
Eric Kusnierkiewicz has been living in University City since 2017 and a member of the Historical Society of University City Since 2022. He has a passion for local history and has been wanting to see the light utilized multiple times a year since learning of it's existence.
Bill Hinson is the Fire Chief of University city and has been since 1994. Chief Hinson and his team have been incredibly helpful and supportive throughout this project
