ELEVATOR UPDATE!!
Sorry for the lack of updates lately. We have been working with the City to finalize our budget request for the elevator repairs.
We are very pleased to announce that your efforts and assistance reaching out to the City has paid off! Our elevator funding will be in the University City FY27 budget that begins July 1, 2026. We will then begin working with the City in order to determine the best process forward in order to get Midwest Elevator scheduled to complete the work. I spoke with Midwest Elevator the other week and they mentioned ideally we would plan this work in the fall so that the temperatures in the roof are cooler.
Now that we have the biggest obstacle funded we can begin working towards the other work that is needed.
Here are the following items that we would like to work towards before the elevator is repaired.
1. Work to begin rebuilding the platform around the elvator. This step only needs a few able bodies and lumber and we can have this rebuilt.
2. Begin working with local business' and business leader for general funding of the light and small repairs. (Think spared parts, general tools, safety gear).
3. Work on restoration of control module that controls the feed rate of carbon rods. This is not a crucial step in the operation as the rods can and have been being fed previously manually. If we are going to restore this light lets make sure it is in optimal condition and restore it fully to it's former glory.
We would also like to highlight this St. Louis Magazine article that was released this morning which speaks about this project and our goals.
